“You can not build a house without solar panels In California” Claudio Canizares, University Professor, Hydro One Research Chair, and Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy. Our educational team continues to communicate with key experts in the field of renewable energy in order to have the best knowledge about the sector and share it with you on our page. This time we managed to talk to a professor from Canada Claudio Canizares Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy.

Professor Cañizares’ research activities focus on the study of stability, control, optimization, modeling, simulation, and computational issues in bulk power systems, microgrids, and energy systems in the context of competitive energy markets and smart grids. Professor Canizares shared with us his vision for the future in the field of renewable energy and also talked about the situation in this field in North America. “In Canada, air pollution from the grid is much lower than in the US and Europe. We have a lot of hydropower and gas for electricity is not used as much. The price of electricity in Canada is lower than in Europe. There is support and initiatives from governments for renewable energy, but the support from governments are much higher in Europe. North America is very large and the development of renewable energy differs depending on the place and province or state. For example, you cannot build a house without solar panels in California, while in Texas, the development of renewable energy in households is low and government hardly supports it. In Canada, for example, Quebec already gets 90+ percent of its energy from renewable energy, the basis of which is hydro, and is now developing wind energy”.
Professor Canizares shared with us his vision about the potential for wind turbines in the residential sector. According to his opinion, wind turbines have a future in some communities and wind farms. “To install wind turbines is a challenge in the residential sector. There are a lot of required permits and restrictions for its installation. Wind turbines cannot compete with solar in homes. Solar plus battery provides what you need. When you do not have sun, you have a battery”.

For TESUP residential Wind Turbines most of the states do not require permissions as low voltage power generator products. Also with the rapidly increased interest during the last 3 months in residential Wind Turbines, TESUP will continue to learn opinions and experiences of professionals all over the Globe about renewable energy future perspectives.

Thank you professor for your time and for sharing your experience and thoughts.

TESUP will continue its interview series to keep up with the times and get the latest knowledge from different points of view to share it with you.
