Most of our day to day professional lives are spent solving technical problems. We feel a little personal victory every time we move that little story card to the "DONE" column. But does software development have to be so goal oriented? So business driven? How about writing software which specifically has no specific business goal? Who's Definition of Done is simply this: IS IT FUN? Grown over decades of tinkering, the open source PureData real-time patcher environment and its shiny commercial cousin, MAX, have existed solely for the purpose of being played. In this session we will look at how PD and MAX have been used for creative works for generations and how we can build our own - be it a music instrument of Dr Suessian complexity or a video art installation controlled by the movement of its observers - we will look at how to build software to be experienced and enjoyed.
