FOX Sports exec: Colin Kaepernick not reason for NFL ratings dip

Fan anger over 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's pregame protests during the national anthem was at times cited during the regular season as a factor in declining NFL television ratings, but an executive at FOX Sports said recently Kaepernick's protests didn't play a big role in how the ratings came out in the end.
In a note sent to Sports Business Journal, FOX Sports executive vice president of research Mike Mulvihill said ratings were down not because fewer people were watching but because people weren't watching the games as long as they have in the past ("The ratings declines that were the subject of so much speculation were never about fans abandoning the NFL. Rather, the declines were about a growing pool of fans spending less time with the games each week.") and that Kaepernick's protests were not one of the chief reasons the ratings declined.
