This tutorial is on how to easily change the duration of a video clip in Premiere Pro. I’ll show you two different methods of doing this.
Jump to Each Section:
0:00 Introduction
0:16 Speed/Duration Tool
2:01 Reverse a Clip
2:14 Rate Stretch Tool
Here’s a quick recap:
Right-click the clip who’s length you want to change and select Speed/Duration from the menu. Alternatively, select the clip and use the keyboard shortcut Command+R if you’re on a Mac or Control+R if you’re on Windows.
Make the speed percentage number larger than 100 to speed it up. Make the speed percentage number smaller than 100 to slow it down. Or type in the exact duration you want it to be in the Duration section of the Clip Speed / Duration box. If you check Reverse Speed it’ll play your clip backwards.
If you don’t know the exact percentage or duration you want to change your clip to that’s okay. You’ll want to use the Rate Stretch Tool. You can find it in the Tools panel or by hitting the “R” key with the Timeline panel selected. With the Rate Stretch Tool active, move your mouse over to the edge of a clip. Then click and drag the end of the clip as needed.
