How does 1986's Labyrinth Hold Up? Retrospective Review
I finally revisited the 1986 classic, Labyrinth! This film, which I adored as a child, stars Jennifer Connelly as Sarah Williams and David Bowie as the Goblin King, Jareth. Sarah, frustrated with her baby brother Toby, unknowingly summons Jareth, who takes Toby to his castle in the Labyrinth. Given 13 hours to rescue him, Sarah encounters fantastical creatures and allies like Ludo, Hoggle, Sir Didymus, and Ambrosius. She faces numerous puzzles, including the iconic door knocker scene and the Bog of Eternal Stench.
The film's practical effects, puppets by Jim Henson, and imaginative design hold up remarkably well. Although it was a commercial failure initially, Labyrinth has since become a beloved cult classic. Join me as I explore its enduring magic and impact!
