On 26 June 2014, Royle Family creator and co-star Caroline Aherne gave a speech at the Manchester Town Hall on the subject of her ongoing battle with lung cancer. The comic was supporting the launch of the Macmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership. Equal parts hilarious and heartrending, Aherne's fragmented speech mixed funny anecdotes of her time in treatment with poignant reflections on her lifelong relationship with cancer and the valuable service provided by Macmillan Cancer Support.
