On 5 April 1996, Peggy Gallagher, mother of Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, was interviewed by ITN's Chris Roberts at her home in Manchester. Peggy was keen to play down son Noel's boasts of past criminal behaviour after Manchester Police announced they were investigating claims made by the singer-songwriter in an interview with a music magazine. Speaking to Melody Maker, Noel Gallagher said: "what people have got to understand is we are lads. We have burgled houses and nicked car stereos, and we like girsl and we swear." Peggy Gallagher dismissed the comments as "just Noel's way of joking", and said her son's words should be taken as an "April fool thing" or a "slip of the tongue".
