As you may have heard Ableton Live 12.1 adds a new Drum Sampler but what does this device add to Ableton’s DAW, that can’t be done with existing devices.
So they way I see it, Drum Sampler is mostly about the convenience of having the tools to shape and process your drums and percussive sounds easily accessible in one place. Yes, most if not all the things you have in the drum sampler can be done with Simpler, Sampler and the fx devices in Live but the layout, features and type of processing are all optimized for drums so getting the desired results is quicker and easier and you actually get really good results as you’ll see later in the video. The pitch envelope especially is a bit of a cheat code for adding punch to your drums, it is definitely my favourite feature of the Drum Sampler.
