Join Melanie and I as we complete a ‘night in the life’ of a Blood Biker with the Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service. We take ‘Gazza’, Garry Scutchers dedicated Yamaha FJR1300, through its paces for a night of blood biking, including a trip to the Great Western Air Ambulance. Essential more than ever, the entire blood biking team are volunteers who carefully transport emergency deliveries all over the UK. You can donate here: https://www.freewheelers.org.uk/

Their service to the NHS is provided free of charge and is funded entirely by public donation and sponsorship. They transport blood, pathology & microbiology specimens, patient notes, X-rays, breast milk, and other medical supplies. Plus, they deliver every night to two local Air Ambulance bases. In 2019, they made over 6,000 deliveries, riding more than 170,000 miles.

Freewheelers Emergency Vehicle Service (EVS) operate a fleet of motorcycles each equipped with high-visibility markings, blue lights and sirens for emergency use. If the service did not exist, hospitals would be forced to use taxis or commercial couriers.

All riders hold an advanced motorcycling qualification, such as the advanced riding test by RoSPA, or IAM RoadSmart. They also have a team of fundraisers and telephone co-ordinators."
