Octave Programming Lesson 17.1 - Introduction to Differential Equations
In this video, I’ll introduce differential equations. Differential equations are equations that contain one or more derivatives. The processes of energy transfer and work involve derivatives, so these processes often modeled with differential equations. Engineers are often interested in designing systems that do useful work like pumping water or turning wheels, so we tend to spend a fair amount of time writing and solving differential equations. To start, I’ll explain a little more about what differential equations do, and then I’ll write the differential equations that govern a few simple systems.
