A look at how to get some classic vintage Juno 106 tones from the Behringer Deepmind 12 by limiting its functionality to replicate the behaviour of the Juno 106 that inspired it.

They're not identical, they're not meant to be, and the DM12 has vast modulation capabilities, FX, extra envelopes, LFOs etc.. so I'm not trying to show how well they match - but if you've got one and you're wondering how to get some classic tones this may help.

17:30 Noise
18:15 HPF
21:55 VCF
27:00 LFO
27:45 Some Sounds
32:36 Chorus + Pads

Some tips so you don't have to take notes:

1. Open default program (PGM + Compare)
2. Edit LFO – change from mono to poly mode
3. Edit Osc – change reset to ON
4. Edit VCF – velocity sensitivity to 0
Change from LFO2 to LFO1
5. Edit VCA – velocity sensitivity to 0
6. Press VCF and VCF envelope buttons together
7. Use default envelop settings

You’re all set….

When programming:

8. Max LFO 9
9. Always use LFO triangle
10. If using a delay on LFO1 AND PWM use LFO 2 at the same speed as LFO 1
11. Leave 1st 3 sliders on OSC to at 0
12. Always use 24dB mode on the VCF
13. Max Reso 8.5
14. For Juno ish Chorus – use Chorus (not Chorus D)
For 106 I speed 0.6
For 106 II speed 1.4

15. Never use HPF AND Boost together
16. Don’t use the mod matrix or Env 3

17. Add additional FX as you’d do that with a Juno using external gear.

18.Use Poly-6 mode in the poly menu to get that original note stealing effect.
