Kumartuli - Where 'GODS' come to life
Celebrating Durga Puja is something we wait for every year. And everytime we feel that the Puja flew very fast.
And during that time, Pandal hopping, lights, pandals, food stays at its peak.
But the whole preparation and process of Durga puja is being done by the Artists who prepare these Mesmerizing Idols.
Kumortuli— Where god's comes to life. Its a 300-year-old community where more than 450 workshops owned by master sculptors regularly create idols of Gods, Goddesses and models for museums and galleries. The moment u visit Kumartuli, it feels like these Artists are living in between idols.
The arts industry is among the most devastated by the COVID 19 pandemic. Artists and arts workers often rely on casual, project-based or fixed-term contracts, and Pandemic restrictions have left many with little or no income. For these Artists insecurity is standard and COVID 19 pandemic had made it worse.
In recent years kuamrtuli observed staggering decrease in number of artists. For the some wages are much more in other professions and for some working with clay or mud is not a career option.
We are really not sure how long this Art will survive in the age of technology. We hope it does!!
