Alan Greenspan was an American economist and central banker who served as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve of the United States from 1987 to 2006. He was born on March 6, 1926, in New York City and earned his PhD in economics from New York University in 1977. Greenspan was a strong advocate of free markets and believed in the power of individual freedom to drive economic growth. During his time as chairman of the Federal Reserve, he was known for his cautious approach to monetary policy and his willingness to intervene in the markets when necessary. Greenspan retired from the Federal Reserve in 2006 and has since been a consultant and public speaker on economic issues.
