What is the first thing that pops into your mind when you say “SUPER POWER?” Well, I’m sure the majority of us would instantly say “the USA,” and rightly so. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the nineties, the U.S. has emerged as one of the greatest powers the world has ever seen and it’s never looked back. Be it economic, political, or military might, the U.S. exerts influence on all around the globe. What makes the USA so powerful? Well, there are several reasons, including its military might. So, today we’re going to check out 6 reasons why you shouldn’t mess with the USA.

Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
ICBMs - or Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles - are a death threat to any nation on Earth. Of course, no one wants a nuclear war which is why the threat of these missiles prompted a ten-year treaty signed in 2011 between the Russian and U.S. governments to limit and reduce the use of strategic weapons. The treaty called for ICBMs, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and heavy bombers to be reduced to 700 on both sides. The treaty was extended for another 5 years just this year. The U.S. now has 400 ICBMs with 800 nuclear warheads in service. The US also possesses the deadly Minuteman III, which is something like the missile you saw Tony Stark demonstrating to the U.S. army in Iron Man I. It’s the world’s first ballistic missile equipped with split warheads that can hit several targets with just one missile. Once the last warhead separates, it triggers the hull liquidation system and the fragments serve as decoys for the missile defense radars of the enemy. That’s enough to intimidate any potential enemy, don’t you think?
To give you some perspective about how powerful the Minuteman III is, consider that both of its versions - the Mk-12A and Mk-21 - carry W78 and W87 nuclear warheads so powerful that they contain a payload of 335 to 475 thousand tons. In comparison, the atom bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki yielded an explosive power of 13 to 21 thousand tons; they look like firecrackers compared to the Minuteman III. However, it’s expected that the Minuteman III, which was supposed to be in service for just 10 years, will be replaced in 2029 by a different system that Northrop Grumman is working on at an estimated cost of $1.2 trillion.
