#brucelee #martialarts Lee was the son of Hong Kong-based Cantonese opera star Lee Hoi-chuen and Grace Ho.In 1940, while his parents were in town for his father's international concert tour, he was born in San Francisco.Soon after, the family went back to Hong Kong. His father introduced him to the Hong Kon film industry when he was a young actor.But they weren't movies about martial arts.
His early training in martial arts included Wing Chun (under the instruction of Yip Man), tai chi, boxing (won a Hong Kong boxing competition), and it appears that he engaged in frequent street fighting (neighbourhood and rooftop fights).
Due to his birthright status, Lee was entitled to immigrate to Seattle in 1959.He enrolled in the University of Washington.
Even though he wanted to be an actor, it was during this time in the United States that he started to think about earning money by instructing martial arts. In Seattle, he established his first martial arts school, which was run out of his house.
He once gained a lot of attention at the 1964 Long Beach International Karate Championships of California by giving demonstrations and speeches before later opening a second school in Oakland. He then relocated to Los Angeles to teach, where he had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Sharon Tate, and Chuck Norris as pupils.
His Hong Kong and Hollywood-produced movie brought Hong Kong martial arts movies to a whole new level of fame and acclaim in the 1970s, igniting a wave of Western interest in Chinese martial arts.
