Five hundred years ago, a young German priest nailed 95 theological theses on the entrance to a church in Wittenberg, Germany. Martin Luther challenged the church of his time and made history by initiating the Reformation.
In history, as in religious pilgrimage, one thing tends to lead to another. Controversy over reform may lead to creation of a city of refuge. The city of Geneva, where French reformer John Calvin and Protestants from all over Europe sought shelter, became instrumental in shaping a new movement.
What does the Reformation mean in today’s context and what are the most important issues for the church today?
