'On This Day 1978: Inside Iconic Disco Nightclub Studio 54'
On This Day 1978, Norman Rees of ITN visited New York's world-famous disco club, Studio 54, in a desperate attempt to understand its appeal.
Opened at the height of the disco era, the club quickly became known for its exclusive entry policy, its A-List guests (such as Pelé, who features in this report), and a particularly lax attitude towards drug use and sexual activity.
While it was only open for 9 years, its peak being in the 1977-79 period, today Studio 54 is remembered as a symbol – and a temple – of the age of disco.
