Operation Fairway is a major special operation undertaken by the military in the summer of 2012, after the failure of Operation Monolith, which was also unsuccessful. The investigation of the reasons for its failure is the plot basis of the game S. T. A. L. K. E. R.: The Call of Pripyat.

"Ray-1" - the lead helicopter of the group and the entire operation. Colonel Kowalski was on it. The helicopter's engine caught fire, but the pilots were able to land it on an old helipad, near the Jupiter plant. They themselves died when touched. There, the crew lost another soldier - Sergeant Shlyachin, who was blown up by a mine. The others met the Guide-the Legend of the Zone. He offered to go to Pripyat. This was in line with the plans, and the military agreed.

"Ray-2" still in the air received a powerful discharge of the anomaly. The pilots were killed, the helicopter was left without control and fell on the former power plant, called the stalkers "Iron Forest", when falling, knocking down one of the poles of power lines. Three soldiers from the landing force survived by no less than a miracle, but they were immediately attacked and killed by a poltergeist.

The "Ray-3" had both engines failed, and it had to be landed on a hill in the south of the Zaton. The story is silent about the fate of the pilots: apparently, they died when touching. This helicopter was used by Captain Tarasov's squad. After landing, the Snorks attacked the military.

While in the air, the "Ray-4" hit an air anomaly, as a result of which it lost control, and fell on the territory of the Jupiter plant, breaking through the roof of the repair shop. Of all the helicopters, it is the most damaged. The tail section is bent, on the tail rotor one blade survived, on the main rotor one blade is broken off and fell on the cabin. However, the co-pilot was thrown out of the helicopter, which allowed him to survive. In this helicopter, as in the fifth "Stingray", all the electronics were burned.

The helicopter "Ray-5" completely burned electronics ("even the insulation on the wires melted"), and he fell into the swamp on the Backwater. The landing was soft, but only five survived. While the soldiers were getting ammunition from the "Ray", they were contacted by the "Ray-3" detachment. The military went to them, but at the VNZ "Circle" they were attacked by a bloodsucker. The commander of the detachment, Major Neborsky, was killed. On the way to Pripyat, Lieutenant Stetsenko was injured ― two toes were torn off by an anomaly. In the battle for the laundry, a soldier was lost — Senior Sergeant Batyai, a sniper.
