VMware Alternative: Using Xen Server for Virtualization
This video goes over using the open source Xen Server as a bare metal hypervisor, in place of VMware ESXi.
I was trying to install ESXi on a new virtualization server but found that my NICs weren't recognized. I then tried Xen which found my NICs and as such this is the current virtualization solution I am using.
