Is red cogwheel pulsating, jolting , accelerating or rotating smoothly? | Velocity illusions
The red cogwheel rotates, but does it rotate smoothly? Physically, the rotation is perfectly smooth. But, the smoothly rotating cogwheel may pulsate, jolt, or accelerate, and the inner stationary cogwheel may wiggle. These dynamic effects seem to be caused by colour assimilation and ambiguous figure-ground segregation.
