Second Flight for Boeing Phantom Eye Hydrogen-Powered UAV
Boeing video of the Feb 25, 2013, second flight of its private-venture Phantom Eye hydrogen-fuelled high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft. The first flight in June2012 ended in damage to aircraft after the skid main gear dug into the lakebed at Edwards AFB, Califonia. The gear was redesigned. An aerodynamic fairing was added to the take-off trolley to reduce drag and increase acceleration on take-off. The aircraft reached 8,000ft and 62kt on its 66-min second flight. The goal is to reach 65,000ft.
