Tip 1: Save Constantly - I recommend saving every time you make a change in your session. There's also a way to set an auto-save feature within FL Studio. Check out the video to find out how to do that.
Tip 2: Build a High Quality Royalty Free Sample Library - It's important to have a wide selection of high quality samples to choose from when producing. This is one of the first things you should put together when you start producing. Over time your library will grow, but you definitely want to set aside some time to find some good samples.
Tip 3: Create a Custom Template - Creating a custom template for yourself that automatically loads up every time you start a new session will ultimate save you a MASSIVE amount of time in the long run.
Tip 4: Learn Keyboard Shortcuts - This is another big time saver. It's something that I wish I had done a better job at in the beginning. Because I didn't have anyone teaching me in the beginning, I developed some bad habits, and this was one one of them. Once you've developed a habit, it's really hard to break. So learn keyboard shortcuts and implement them into your workflow ASAP!
Tip 5: Don't Get Stuck Working on a Project - In the beginning when you're learning the software and various production and mixing techniques, it's important to not get stuck working on a project for too long. In a year you're probably going to look back at all these projects anyway and think they're garbage. No use in wasting extra time.
Tip 6: Get Studio Monitors and/or Studio Monitor Headphones - Another really important one here. Studio monitors provide a unique listening experience which helps while mixing. They offer a flat frequency response which helps translate better into the real world on other speaker systems and headphones.
Tip 7: Learn Mixing and Sound Design Techniques - It's important to know how to use mixing and sound design tools such as EQ, compression, reverb, delay, etc. I have various tutorials on some of these subjects on the channel.
Tip 8: Collab With Other Producers - This is another big one. I suggest trying to collaborate with other producers in person who are better than you. It's one of the best ways to learn new tips, tricks, and techniques.
Tip 9: Come up With a Good Labeling System - Organization is extremely important, and something that I overlooked when I started producing. This is another tip that will ultimately save you A LOT of time.
Tip 10: Use Reference Tracks - Using reference tracks can often answer a lot of questions you may have about production. In the video I'll talk a little bit more about what I mean.
