🦘 The kangaroo is indigenous to Australia and is the largest marsupial on earth. Joeys (baby kangaroos) are born at 5 weeks gestation and are reared in their mothers pouch. Kangaroos are famous for their means of movement – hopping – and the larger species can reach speeds of 60kph, clearing more than 8m in a single hop! Interestingly, kangaroos cannot move backwards. For this reason, they feature on the Australian coat of arms – an animal that can only move forward symbolising national progress.
