Kızılay is a district in central Ankara best known for its commercial and shopping malls. It is named after the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay Derneği) Hospital, which is located in this district. The center is Kızılay Meydanı (Kızılay Square).
There are many retail and grocery stores on the main street, Atatürk Bulvarı, as well as restaurants and bars with outdoor seating, fish markets and a large flower market.
In Kızılay is the Güven Park with many trees and benches, next to a bus station. During protests in Turkey in 2013, Kızılay Square alongside Taksim Square in Istanbul was one of the main gathering places.
