Tim Walz’s lifelong fascination with Chinese culture started when he taught there for a year as a 25 year old in 1989. Before he was first elected to Congress in 2006, in public appearances and campaign materials he was proud of his extensive experience in China.
In fact, he has occasionally exaggerated how many times he's visited. But now that he’s running for vice president, Walz barely mentions China. And Republicans have tried to turn his connections into a political liability.
