Once again, the internet can be a wonderful place – I had someone add a link to a comment on one of my videos that took me to a live performance of some guys celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Morning View by playing the entire album plus some other classic Incubus songs.
I was blown away by the quality of the musicians on stage and the closer I looked, I realised that none other than Jon Stockman from the amazing band Karnivool was playing bass! The main man filling Brandon's shoes had an unbelievable voice too so I cheekily sent a reply saying I'd love to do a cover with the lead singer. Thankfully that was (another) Nic and he had initially added the comment to my video with the link.

He was happy to record some vocals and I've been itching to redo Consequence as my first attempt had mistakes and just doesn't sound too good to me and so here we are!
Blows my mind that I'm in the UK and Nic is in Perth, Australia, a good 9,000 miles away and yet we are able to create an Incubus cover together - pretty darn cool!
What you are hearing are my guitar and bass parts dropped in instead of Mike and Dirk's and Nic's vocals instead of Brandon's. The drums and DJ parts are from the original track and that is thanks to the great AI program called Moises (link below for anyone that is interested).
I have done my best to mix this and match the tonality of the original recording from Make Yourself. Mike's guitar was particularly hard to replicate as his dirty tone is so thick and yet harsh at the same time. I wonder if this had a lot to do with some room mics maybe to get that really fat sound in combination with the close mic'd cab and playing next to a really loud amp in the studio probably helped too!
My tc flanger doesn't quite get the same quality of sound that Mike's does on this track. I'm leaning heavily towards that he was using the Boss BF-2 for this album and hope to get my hands on one at some point to test that theory.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this one, it's been a lot of work and my biggest thanks to Nic for agreeing to do this with me. Let us know in the comments what you think!
