RIMWORLD - Sea Ice Map
500% - Losing is Fun - Randy Random
Rich Explorer Start
Commitment Mode
A Twitch VOD Challenge Series

This is a full playthrough that was streamed on twitch in it's entirety.

The Challenge:
Sea Ice is considered one of, if not the, hardest maps to start a colony on. There are no resources other than what the starting scenario provides, it will never be the right temperature for growing, and you won't be able to use deep drills to get chunks of stone out of the ground for building materials. We'll be starting with a single pawn, using the rich explorer start. Our initial walls and furniture will literally need to be built out of the silver that we spawn with in order to get a structure we can live in. Ever scrap of progress, every shred of materials, every moment of sanity, will be fought for tooth and nail. There will be loses! There will be pain!

What is 500% Losing is Fun?
Losing is Fun is the hardest difficulty setting that you can select without customizing the settings. On this difficulty the threat scale is at 220% and there are debuffs to growing, immunity, and other aspects of gameplay. For 500% we go into the customize menu, set it to the Losing is Fun settings in the pull down menu and then turn up the slider for threat scaling to 500%. This is commonly done for challenge playthroughs and is generally the settings someone will be referring to if they say they are doing a 500% run.

Who is Randy?
For those new to the Rimworld experience, you may not know that when you start a game you get a choice of story teller in addition to setting the difficulty and save style. The story teller determines how events will unfold in your playthrough. Randy is the random event story teller. He can be very very punishing because he has a fraction of the cooldown between major bad events as the others, but since it is all random there can also be very quiet times during the playthrough where not much is triggering at all. All of which is determined by the RNG that guides Randy's story telling.

Commitment Mode:
Another setting to select when starting a new game is whether or not to play on commitment mode. On commitment mode there is no saving other than auto-save (in case of crashes, and such). The only time the game gives you an option to save manually is when you exit. You cannot reload and try again in this mode. When someone dies they are dead. When your favorite couple breaks up they break up. Everything that happens is permanent and there are no take backsies.

No Killbox / No traps:
A great way for smaller forces to overcome large raids and events is to control the situation and to use resources other than colonist lives to defeat the enemy. If you build a long tunnel full of traps leading to a choke point where all of your colonists are waiting behind perfect cover to shoot enemies the moment they appear you've put yourself in a much better position to take on overwhelming numbers. There will be none of that in this playthrough. Instead, we will be relying on strategy, game knowledge, and a little luck to power our way through.

Shout Outs:
I have to give a shoutout to @AdamVsEverything and @FrancisJohnYT
The vast majority of what I know about playing this game comes from these two creators. I love both of their content, and would never have gotten anywhere on hard difficulties without watching them.

Thank you all for coming on this journey with me. I look forward to the story unfolding with everyone.
