In Montana, young people are developing on-the-job skills to become the next conservation leaders, thanks to a partnership between The Nature Conservancy, the Southwest Montana Sagebrush and the Youth Employment Program. People ages 15-25 spend the summer in the Sagebrush Sea, building structures to hold water on the landscape, restoring sagebrush habitat by removing encroaching trees, collecting data for science and developing a peer and mentorship network that will set them up for success as they advance their conservation careers. The effort also helps strengthen rural communities by offering rewarding employment for young people who want to stay close to the places in which they were raised.

In this video, join youth employees Bella Glosser and Colton Folts, plus program leaders, to see and hear about how this work can transform young people’s career opportunities and confidence while playing an important role in helping nature thrive.
