Two hundred years ago, people needed to find a better way for farmers in the Midwest to deliver goods to New York City. So, they decided to dig a canal from the Hudson River to the Great Lakes. This video tells the story of the Erie Canal, from its opening in 1825 to the modern Erie Canalway Trail. A great introduction to New York history for elementary students.
