While filming this movie, the crew was hit by a powerful sandstorm that ended up destroying quite a few of the Tatooine sets in the desert. Filming resumed a few days later, and George saw this as a good omen since a similar storm hit the same area while he was filming A New Hope. Also, there was almost a change in casting when it comes to Jar Jar Binks. According to Ahmed Best, Michael Jackson campaigned for the part, but George thought that his star status would compromise the film. He later took Best and Portman backstage at a Michael Jackson concert to introduce them and get the singer’s approval.
