An Epic is a collection of work that has one common objective or goal.
It could be a feature, functionality, or business requirement. Let’s take an example of client requirements about login functionality. The client wants social login in addition to the normal login of the application. Social login can be login with Facebook or Google. So, the user stories related to Google, Facebook, and application login can be placed in an epic because all mentioned user stories have a common goal. On the other hand, a user story is nothing but a client requirement like Facebook login.
