This shouldn't happen in a camera designed to be used for video when recording internally let alone externally through HDMI with a DC coupler considering there will be no heat build-up from a battery inside the device. I also tried removing the memory card, but that didn't appear to make any difference. This is disappointing to see because I never had the Canon EOS M6 Mark II overheat in this use case which was the camera I primarily used.
The camera was set to 4k with full color output. The camera was in manual exposure, wide area autofocus, no stabilization, and manual audio settings. I could try other combinations but considering the camera isn't doing the recording itself I don't see why it can't output its optimal 4k signal to a recorder for as long as I want. I often do recording sessions of hands-on product reviews where the camera can be running continuously for an hour or two at a time. There are other situations where I'm doing a talking-to-the-camera, product overviews, or tutorials where I can work for a few hours. In the past I keep the main camera running most of the time.
