Google Nailed it with the Pixel Watch 3: the heart rate tracking is better, it has consistent sleep stage tracking and it’s finally the right size. In this video we’ll scientifically and systematically test the 45 and 41 mm versions of the Pixel Watch 3. Based on these tests, as an Android user, the Pixel Watch 3 would be one of my top choices right now. There are still some things that could be better, but this is definitely the first Pixel Watch I could see myself using as a daily driver. We already discussed all the specs in my first video on the Pixel Watch 3, so let’s dive right into the testing! As always, we will start off by testing the heart rate tracking performance during different exercises. I tested the watch on myself, and I also did some tests on Theresa and Raphael. After that we will test the sleep stage tracking and the GPS tracking, and at the end we will look at some of the health and running features.
So, what is my general conclusion on the Pixel Watch 3? Well, as I said, this is the first Pixel Watch I would actually wear as my daily driver. That’s partially because of the increased performance in heart rate tracking and the still very decent sleep stage tracking, and in part due to the larger size being available. So, if you’re on Android, this would be one of my top two picks at the moment, and the only other device I would consider equal is the Whoop Strap. The Whoop strap has better battery life and has an even slightly stronger sports and health focus. But the difference is not huge and the overall heart rate and sleep tracking performance of the Pixel Watch 3 is probably slightly more accurate than the Whoop Strap. And with those new scores that Google introduced, the health and sports focus of the pixel watch 3 is quite good already. Be aware that on iOS you unfortunately cannot use a Pixel Watch, but their the Apple Watch is very accurate at sports and health tracking, of which new versions are also coming out today. The main downside of the Apple Watch is that the visualization and presentation of the data has always been less than ideal, though some good first steps have been taken with the new vitals app. So who should get the Pixel Watch 3? Well, people on Android who need great heart rate tracking, pretty good sleep stage tracking and quite good GPS tracking. You just shouldn’t mind charging it roughly every day or two.
