Stephen King’s novel “The Stand” and its television adaptations give us not only an apocalyptic horror story, but also a remarkably direct examination of how power works in social groups, how power attracts the corrupt, and how even good people with noble goals compromise their own ideals in the service of the perceived "greater good" of the group.

Some folks are still a bit triggered by the two or three Covid jokes in this one. But with a 2020 show about a plague, I'd be remiss if I didn't make a little hay of it.
