Description: The COVID-19 pandemic has permanently altered our way of life from recognizing relentless inequities and their profound impacts, the powerful impact of family therapy interventions, as well as their shortcomings. In this talk, Parra-Cardona will utilize a systemic perspective to understand the impact of the pandemic, particularly among the most vulnerable populat ions. He will also reflect about the stories of success of family therapy approaches that emerge in response to this worldwide crisis. Finally, he will reflect on the challenges that lie ahead for the field of family therapy in a world where profound inequities can no longer be hidden.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Rubén Parra-Cardona is an Associate Professor in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, at the University of Texas at Aust in. He also serves as Area Director of Research at the Latino Research Institute at UT Austin. His research is focused on the cultural adaptation of prevention parent ing interventions for low-income Lat ina/o immigrant communities. His research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
