The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is soldiering on in the highly competitive mid-size segment, which continues to dominated by the Toyota RAV4, although the all-electric Tesla Model Y well and truly made its presence felt on last year's sales chart. Either way, it's a tall task to win over family car buyers en masse.
So, what is the CX-5 bringing to the table in 2024? Well, a model-year update has ushered in price rises and an uplift in standard equipment for some grades. But the big news is the axing of the turbo-diesel engine option, with the key Mazda model going petrol-only from now on.
But in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the CX-5's turbo-petrol Akera G35 flagship to find out if it's the pick of the bunch anyway, even if its only MY24 change is the swapping of woodgrain interior trim for a new finish.
