English Interpretation -
Chhetum’s fair
Through chill and mist, winged we came
Into this sheer, colossal frame
A slender bud; spring’s own telltale
Merry raindrops croon their tale,
To emerald field off we go
For no moon, this night will show,
Under Kalumge, white and tall
Chhetum’s fair awaits us all
By orangey clumps, the forest soars,
In full bloom, the rhododendron roars.
Beneath its crimson, I shall lie,
And let your longings pass me by.
Over snowy shrouds shall they whizz and fly,
Them, eagles and hawks, proud and high.
I yearn away to such realms untold,
Yet, the sun goes past, my steps turn cold.
In its shed at the manger, the yak munches straw and hay,
My lean body, in tattered garb, with belly gnawing away.
To Ghurbise, we dart, fleet of foot,
An owl’s hoot guides our route.
Upon Khorlang’s head, the mountain’s bed,
Twigs and herbs and vines in a braid.
“Ah,” say the wise, in voices ol’,
Of a beast with blue-bull shape and soul.
Upon Khorlang’s head, the mountain’s bed,
Where the mirth pours out and griefs are bared.
Hey now! My hearties, let’s sweep full tilt
Since no moon, this sky will wield,
‘Neath Kalumge, the fair is in swing,
To drink and dance around the fire’s ring
Heed! Heed! Heed!
Reached it must be before the light fall
For the night is short and the night is all
