Virtual eXtensible Local Area Network (VXLAN) is a tunneling protocol that tunnels Ethernet (layer 2) traffic over an IP (layer 3) network.
Great for the Data Center - we have full control over all the network devices, we can manage the MTU (there are 50B of overhead on the L2 header)
Internet Service Providers?
There are some use cases, but we are waiting for Mikrotik to implement BGP-EVPN. I will talk about about EVPN-VXLAN in a future video (currently no supported in RouterOS)
Now supported in RouterOS v7. Learn how to configure it from scratch in this video!
