Legendary Sahelian artists Vieux Farka Touré, Amadou and Mariam, Oumy Gueye, Tal National, Songhoy Blues, and Bassekou Kouyate, have together with UNOCHA created and launched The Sahel Song.
An incredible five-minute vocal and instrumental composition celebrating The Sahel’s musical culture and tradition.
Each musician gave their time and energy to this beautiful piece to draw attention to the humanitarian situation in the region while reminding us of the beauty and resilience of the Sahelian people.
The Sahel crisis is one of the world’s fastest-growing emergencies. This year, almost 29 million people need life-saving assistance and protection — that’s 5 million more people than last year.
