There are many ways you can go about composing a sports design poster. This video walks through a basic composition technique you can use for three player images, using a small + medium + big player approach to create the graphic.
In these composition videos I try to put more of an emphasis on the process of composing the design rather than the technical skills in executing a specific design element.
