The very first version of the song, tentatively titled Let's Get It Together. It must have been the political song that accompanied the rallies, but Leary was defeated by the Republican candidate Ronald Reagan; John wrote a new text and proposed it to the Beatles, who immediately recorded it. When Leary politely protested that he was no longer considered, Lennon with his polite humor replied that he was a tailor, and Leary a customer who no longer needed his dress, so he had sold it to someone else.
