Listen to Our Voice | Daniel: We want our youth to be proud of who they are
In the second part of our Listen to Our Voice series, we explore what Indigenous constitutional recognition through a Voice means to the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Australia has a rich, peaceful and vibrant society with a unique history – a history that begins with 65,000 years of continuous Aboriginal and Islander cultural connection to this wonderful land.
Yet, even after 100’s of years of European settlement and a constitution now 122 years old we still don’t recognise our First Australians in it.
It’s time we did. Together.
Our First Australians are asking that this recognition be both simple and practical. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in communities across Australia have come together to ask to have more of a say about only the laws that directly affect them. Nothing more.
We believe Australians are ready to take this step with a simple and powerful response when we are asked in the upcoming referendum to, at last, truly recognise our First Australians in our Constitution.
