Six people were killed and 12 others were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening On Friday June 17th at around 9:00 pm a 16-year-old boy was shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Melvin Cook, he was shot in the head by two males who approached the vehicle as it cruised down an alley in the 6500 block of South Hamilton Avenue.
Cook and his friend were in the car when someone walked up and asked them, where they were from. “I’m not about that,” cook said to one of the gunman. Then the person opened fire killing the sixteen-year-old passenger, the boy’s friend was not hurt. Cook, who lived in the 5700 block of South Calumet, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:27 p.m. Police said the driver ran away from the vehicle after the shooting. The shooter or shooters are still at large.

On Friday June 17th at around 10:30 pm a 22-year-old man was shot in an alley on the 2200 South Kirkland Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago’s west side.

The man was standing with a group of people in a vacant lot in the alley when a gunman opened fire on the group fatally hitting 22-year-old Charles Wiley, aka Baby G of the 4200 block of West Cullerton Street. The 22-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. This was a gang related shooting the shooter or shooters are still at large.

On Saturday June 18th at around 3:40 a.m., a man was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting in the 1300 block of West Hastings street in the University Village Neighborhood on Chicago’s South Westside.

One man, age 24, was shot in the back and was pronounced dead UIC Hospital

One man, age 29, was shot in both thighs, his hand and forearm. The other man, age 30, was shot in the hand. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital where their conditions stabilized.

It appears two of the victims work as security guards for Kates Detective Agency and apparently drove themselves to the 12th district police department for help after the shooting.

Witnesses at the scene said the security guards pulled up to a large party outside the ABLA-Robert Brooks Homes before shots were fired this shooting is still under investigation by 12th district area detectives.



On Saturday June 18th at around 1:00 am a man was stabbed outside Harold’s Chicken on the 6900 block of south Ashland avenue in the Englewood Neighborhood on Chicago’s Southside. According to the police radio a group of men were fighting outside of Harold’s chicken when one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the other then fled the scene threatening to return with a gun and finish the job, the man was slumped over sitting in the street while family members and friends comforted the man while he was being treated by paramedics and police the man was taken away by ambulance the condition of the victim is unknown at this time. All of this and much more happened in a 9-hour period from Friday at 8:00pm till 5:00 am Saturday morning this is just an average Friday night for Maggio News on the Bloody Streets of Chicago.
