Not only was Galileo so revolutionary for his use of the telescope to peer into the night sky, but also for his physical theories and transformation of scientific writing and methods!!

Summary:
Even though he started university studying medicine, Galileo quickly shifted his interest to mathematics and physics. He left college to became a lecturer; engaging with areas of science such as hydrostatics and projectile motion. This led to his first works, On Motion and Mechanics, where he established the key mathematical relationship between a projectile’s distance and the time elapsed, as well as parabolic motion.

After learning about Hippershey’s telescope, Galileo created a superior one of his own: the lenses he crafted provided up to 9 times in magnification, and allowed him to see more stars than ever before. He used his telescopic observations heavily in his works The Starry Messenger and Letters on Sunspots, which discuss things like Galilean moons and the moon’s rough surface.

In addition to his notable work with telescopes, Galileo utilized Copernican theory heavily in works such as Discourse on the Tides and Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, which got him in trouble with the church. He also wrote in Discourse on Bodies in Water that objects don’t float in water because of their flatness, but because of their density.
