Elie ’Visionelie’ Kimbembe gives insights on his photography career
The Creator Class hosted a sold out talk with Elie (previously and infamously known as "Visionelie"), one of Toronto’s best young photographers making moves on the international stage. A Toronto-based Africa-born photographer, Elie started his career in Toronto shooting architecture around the city, focusing mainly on the symmetry of large skyscrapers. From there, he amassed a large following on Instagram and evolved his photography to display more reflection and emotion.
His big break came when he was asked to shoot a lookbook for The Weeknd’s clothing line XO. Since than, Elie has become largely sought after in the music industry — becoming a personal photographer to The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Banks and Selena Gomez. In 2017, he was exclusively invited to shoot the behind-the-scenes photography for the blockbuster hit Black Panther.
Moderated by journalist and DJ Jordan Sowunmi (Fader, Complex, VICE, Boosie Fade), the focus of the conversation revolves around Elie’s rise as a photographer, his early inspirations, career highlights, and how he established himself as one of the music industry's most sought-after photographers.
