It is one of the most well-known tourist destinations in the world due to its vibrant pink color, which is a result of a diversity of microorganisms typical of saline settings. This lake is nestled in the stunning Costa Blanca natural reserve about southeast of Alicante, Spain, and is only a few kilometers away.
The Laguna Salada can produce up to 350 grams of salt per liter of water, a concentration comparable to the Dead Sea. The Torrevieja lakes produce up to 700,000 tons of salt per year, which is exported internationally. The high concentration of minerals and iodine in the area has created one of the world's most unique microclimates, resulting in air that is rich in respiratory benefits. Even the muds deposited on the lagoon's bottom are an excellent treatment for skin and joint ailments.
The best time to visit this enchanting town is in late summer, when the colors of its waters reach their peak intensity of pink, eventually reaching a sparkling fuchsia. The arrival of over 2,000 flamingos that come to spend their breeding season here from mid-August to the end of September completes the landscape in its full splendor.
