There are actual Blizzard interviews where they are talking about being heavily interested in doing a new Warcraft movie and all they need is a compatible partner, however an animated series is something a lot less risky but it could perform even better. Just examine that the Alleria video got 4 times more views than the Nerubian short. Even more interestingly half of the short had nothing to do with the new expansion it wasn't just promotional material but it was about the second war showing us the original warcraft aesthetic of trolls, orcs, elves and humans.
If they just wanted to test a new art style they would have animated something around Xal'atath or the earthen. Seeing that the lead cinematic guy came out saying that this was quite a big project. Has this entire Alleria video been a massive test to see how the audience responds and are they really paving the way for a fully fledged animated warcraft series based around the core of Warcraft, the orcs vs humans or even Arthas himself? A Quel'Thalas animated series would make sense to promote Midnight which will come soon.
