Diary of a German corporal. He began keeping his diary in the summer of 1941, when his division was preparing for an attack on the Soviet Union. In accordance with the plan of Operation Barbarossa, the division advanced south of the Pripyat marshes during stubborn battles. At the end of the same year, the unit participated in closing the encirclement ring around Kiev, and subsequently in fierce battles near Stalingrad, in the battles for Kharkov, Voronezh and Orel.
