The chimaera, or ghost shark, is one of the oldest fish in the ocean. It's an ancient relative of true sharks that diverged from a common ancestor 200 million years ago. Sensitive electroreceptors on the snout and along the body allow it to detect prey in nearby water and the soft sediments at the bottom of the deep ocean.
