Richard Ranaghan was one of the earliest Columban Fathers. His interest in the new art of filmmaking was a seminal moment in the history of the Columbans. During Ranaghan's four years in China, he filmed a great deal of footage of the Columbans on their first overseas mission. In 1934, the Columbans released their first movie, "Cross and Dragon." The movie paved the way for future use of film production.
